Privacy Protection for Social Networking APIs

ABSTRACT
Social networking APIs integrate third-party content into the site and give third-party developers access to user data. These open interfaces enable popular site enhancements but pose serious privacy risks by expos-ing user data to third-party developers. We address the privacy risks associated with social networking APIs by presenting a privacy-by-proxy design for a privacy- preserving API that is motivated by an analysis of the data needs and uses of Facebook applications. Our study of 150 popular Facebook applications reveals that nearly all applications could maintain their function ality using a limited interface that only provides access to an anonymized social graph and placeholders for user data. Since the platform host can control the third party applications’ output, privacy-by-proxy can be accomplished without major changes to the plat form architecture or applications by using new tags and data transformations.

Moodle Student Guide

Student Guide - Introduction
The course assumes that your professor has confirmed that you have at least a basic knowledge of how to use a computer including using input devices like a mouse and a keyboard. In addition, it is assumed that you are familiar with your web browser and navigating between pages on the Internet.

In this guide you will be introduced to the basics of participating in an online course. This part of the course is on paper, as you will need to refer to it at the same time as taking notice of what is displayed on screen.

As the course progresses, the emphasis will move from this guide to solely online activity. The actual appearance on screen is governed by settings on your own computer and as a result what you see may be slightly different than that shown in the examples. Please follow the steps in the order shown until you have completed the section on basic navigation.

Photoshop 7.0 Scripting Guide

 1.1 About this manual
This manual provides an introduction to scripting Adobe Photoshop 7.0 on Mac OS and Windows®. Chapter one covers the basic conventions used in this manual and provides an overview of requirements for scripting Photoshop.

Chapter two covers basic scripting terms, concepts and techniques. Experienced AppleScript writers and Visual Basic programmers may want to skip to Chapter three for specifics on scripting Photoshop.

1.1.1 Conventions in this guide
Code and specific language samples appear in monospaced courier font:
documents.add();
IMPORTANT: Most code examples in this manual are brief snippets that will not work as fully functional scripts.

Several conventions will be used when referring to AppleScript, Visual Basic and JavaScript. Please note the following shortcut notations:
AS stands for AppleScript
VB stands for Visual Basic
JS stands for JavaScript

The term “commands” will be used to refer both to commands in AppleScript and methods in Visual Basic and JavaScript.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Scripting Guide

What is scripting?
A script is a series of commands that tells Photoshop CS2 to perform a set of specified actions, such as applying different filters to selections in an open document. These actions can be simple and affect only a single object, or they can be complex and affect many objects in a Photoshop CS2 document. The actions can call Photoshop CS2 alone or invoke other applications.

Scripts automate repetitive tasks and are often used as a creative tool to streamline tasks that might be too time consuming to do manually. For example, you could write a script to generate a number of localized versions of a particular image or to gather information about the various color profiles used by a collection of images.

Why use scripting?
While graphic design is characterized by creativity, some aspects of the actual work of illustration and image manipulation are anything but creative. Scripting helps creative professionals save time by automating repetitive production tasks such as resizing or reformatting documents.

ABA’s Guide to Twitter for Booksellers

What is Twitter?
Twitter is a microblogging platform. No one gets to be verbose here: 140 characters per post is all you’re allowed.

What’s the point?
Community and conversation, and a way to share them with some very smart people.

How do I start?

  • Create an account.
  • Set up your profile. Include enough information to make it clear you’re a real person, not a spammer. Upload a picture.
  • Follow other Twitter users. Start slowly – following hundreds of people right away makes you look like a spammer, and makes people disinclined to follow you back.
  • Start tweeting. Give people an idea of what to expect from you.
  • Read some of what’s already out there before you jump into conversations.

And then what?

  • Use Twitter in your web browser at Twitter.com, or download one of the third-party applications, like TweetDeck, Twhirl, TwitterBerry, or Twitterific.
