Darksiders Guide

The Watcher - After The Charred Council stripped War of his powers, they assigned The Watcher to ensure that War not overstep his bounds. The Watcher is given authority to end War’s life should the need arise. A nuisance at times and a guiding light at others, The Watcher is a part of War, so he better learn to live with him.

Vulgrim - The unscrupulous demon known as Vulgrim is neither friend nor foe to War. He is a peddler of upgrades, consumables, and abilities, and he’s no more than an unpleasant necessity to those who seek his business. Vulgrim seeks the souls of the dead—he accepts no other currency—and he’ll trade anything to get them. That is, if the price is right.

Visitors Guide to Haiti

Vision Statement
The founding vision statement of the Office of Haitian Ministries and Norwich Mission House sums up our goals and our aspirations:

We of the Haitian Ministries Office of the Diocese of Norwich join with other members of the body of Christ in joyful response to the Lord’s words “Love one another as I have loved you.” In responding to this Gospel mandate, we choose to walk in solidarity with the Haitian people, recognizing them as family, promoting their dignity and encouraging their self-determination.

Therefore, through our presence, collaboration, education for justice in Haiti and the United States and the channeling of resources and talents, we commit ourselves to enable the Haitian people to realize their full potential.

Joining hands and hearts with the original diocesan groups who journeyed to Haiti and whose dream was to work with the Haitian people, we continue to collaborate in building a new Haiti, born of suffering, courage, hope, love, compassion, and justice — a new Haiti standing as a dignified member of the global community.

Pregnancy Pact Discussion Guide for Parents

Lifetime’s original movie, The Pregnancy Pact, inspired by a true story, explores the costs of teen pregnancy with a story of a fictional “pregnancy pact” set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008. Lifetime Networks and The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy have teamed up to get people talking about the film and teen pregnancy in the United States.

In the film, online magazine journalist Sidney Bloom (Thora Birch) returns to her hometown to investigate the sudden spike in teenage pregnancies at her old high school. Almost immediately, she comes up against Lorraine Dougan (Nancy Travis), the head of the local conservative values group and mother of Sara (Madisen Beatty), a newly pregnant 15-year-old. Meanwhile, the high school nurse (Camryn Manheim) tries to convince the school to provide contraception to students to address the pregnancy epidemic but is met with great opposition from the school and community. As the number of pregnant girls climbs to 18, a media firestorm erupts when Time Magazine reports that the rise in pregnancies at the school is the result of a “pregnancy pact.” As the mystery unfolds about whether or not “the pact” is real, Sidney soon realizes that all of the attention is disguising the much larger issues that are at the core of the story.

Maternal smoking causes infant morbidity and mortality.’-3 The elimination or reduction of active and passive maternal and fetal exposure to cigarette smoke represents a high national priority for the decade.-6 Effective smoking cessation methods among pregnant women, particularly in public health populations, are needed.

Multiple evaluation studies’l-16 have reported the efficacy of cessation methods for pregnant smokers and have assessed medical cost outcomes.16 Only one study has evaluated the behavioral impact12 and cost-effectivenessl7 of cessation methods among pregnant smokers in a public health setting. Cost-benefit analyses of health education methods for that setting are not available.7

This report presents the results of the Birmingham Trial II, an evaluation of the behavioral impact and cost benefit of a health education program for pregnant smokers in public health maternity clinics.

Methods
This study was conducted from 1986 to 1991 at the four highest census maternity clinics of the Jefferson County Health Department in Birmingham, Alabama.

Teen Pregnancy Pact

Last month’s widely reported spike in the pregnancy rate at a Massachusetts high school stunned many folks. But the 10th-grade moms-to-be weren’t among them. Why? Because apparently most of the seventeen sophomores who got pregnant at Glouster High did it intentionally. You heard it right. The girls were trying to get pregnant!

The school nurse reported that the girls repeatedly marched together into her office for pregnancy tests. They comforted each other when the tests were negative and positive results were met with squeals of delight and hugs all around. On hearing her positive test results, one girl loudly proclaimed “Sweet!”

What?! Turns out that this group of friends actually pledged to get pregnant ASAP and to raise their babies together. Sweet, huh?
